We are very much a family business and we all work very closely together.

Mike Smith F.C.A is director and founder of M J Smith & Co Ltd. Mike is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and he has had 28 years professional experience which has been sandwiched around a spell working, at a very senior level, for a construction group. This group grew from a very small company, to a group with a £30 million turnover, while Mike was working there. Mike is very experienced and has particular expertise in company and taxation matters.

Miles Smith F.C.C.A started his working life in the construction industry having obtained an HND in Building Studies. In 1992 Miles joined Mike in the practice and has since become a fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants. Miles is well versed in all matters relative to the practice but he is outstanding in his knowledge of computers and their application to business.

Vicki Gardner C.A.T joined the practice in 1994 and has a qualification as a Certified Accounting Technician. Vicki looks after payroll for clients as well as book-keeping and accounts preparation. Vicki’s experience working for a major bank proves to be a useful background.

The most senior members of our team have the experience which is probably almost unique amongst practicing accountants of actually having worked in the construction industry. Miles Smith has an HND in Building Studies and has worked for Wimpey Homes amongst others. Mike Smith joined a small building company and by the time he left, to set up M J Smith & Co Ltd, he was joint managing director of the company which had a turnover of £30 million pounds.
